KanAm Grund Kapitalanlagegesellschaft mbH headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, was formed in 2000 and is the first independent real estate investment company in the form of a Kapitalanlagegesellschaft in Germany. In August 2001 this special financial institution was authorized by the German Federal Banking Authority (BaFin) to conduct investment business and to maintain investment accounts. Since setting up KanAm grundinvest Fonds, Germany's first non-bank open-ended real estate fund, in November 2001, KanAm has been offering a wide range of investors the opportunity to invest in fungible, high-yield and tax-favourable open-end investment funds.

In May 2003 the second public fund, the KanAm US-grundinvest Fonds, was formed which is denominated in US dollars – again a first in Germany.

KanAm Grund Kapitalanlagegesellschaft mbH performs all the functions of a special financial institution independently. This includes portfolio management and portfolio analysis, property acquisition – where the company can profit from the extensive know-how and excellent market expertise of the other companies in the KanAm Group – customer care and marketing, client portfolio management, the marketing of fund products, facility management, accounting and controlling.
